Foxconn Announces X38A Digital Life Motherboard

The X38A is compatibility with both DDR2 and DDR3 RAM. The motherboard will support a maximum of 8GB DDR2 1066/800/667MHz RAM or 4GB DDR3 1333/1066/800MHz RAM. This provides true flexibility to consumers who don't have plans to take the DDR3 path right now.The X38A fully supports the latest industry technologies; with three PCIe x16 slots (including two slots supporting ATI CrossFire running at dual x16 bandwidth), PCIe Generation 2.0 support for future high-performance graphics cards, and support for forthcoming Intel® 45nm processors.FoxconnÙs proprietary Cool Pipe design effectively removes heat from the critical NB, SB and VRM areas, and with an optional low-noise fan on the NB heatsink and Cool Fan control in the BIOS, you can easily configure your system for an effective combination of passive and active cooling.Other enthusiast features include onboard CMOS and On/Off/Reset buttons, FoxOne™ Windows-based system monitoring and overclocking utility, and extensive BIOS tuning capability via the Fox Central Control Unit (FCCU) BIOS menu.

MSI's P965 Platinum and 975X Platinum motherboards

WHEN INTEL UNVEILED its P965 Express chipset at Computex, many were left wondering if any motherboard manufacturers would bother building boards based on the older 975X Express. The P965 was a newer design—one built on fancier 90nm process technology—and its ICH8-series south bridge chips offered a more advanced array of features than the 975X's year-old ICH7s. At the time, motherboard makers questioned whether they'd bother building 975X boards for enthusiasts, and they seemed to be leaning toward making high-end boards based on the P965.
Abandoning the 975X in favor of the newer, flashier P965 was a bold idea, but one that was ultimately sunk by the P965's lack of support for CrossFire multi-GPU configurations. However, ATI recently began supporting CrossFire on the P965, raising the question of whether there's much point to the 975X anymore. To find out, we've collected the P965 and 975X Platinum motherboards from MSI. Both boards support CrossFire and Intel's latest Core 2 processors, but the 975X Platinum costs about $20 more. The question is: why?

GMA X3000

Duo is the baseline. It's based around revised versions of the mobile Core 2 Duo processors Intel launched in autumn 2006, along with laptop-friendly incarnations of the 965 desktop chipset brought to market almost a year ago. The key chipset, the 965GM, brings Intel's latest integrated graphics core, the GMA X3000, to Centrino for a smoother Windows Vista experience and better-looking movie playback.

P45 Motherboards

Looking at the board alone, the EP45T-Extreme uses Intel's latest P45 chipset with a ICH10R Southbridge and supports up to 1600MHz FSB 45nm Intel Core 2 processors. It can do DDR3 up to 1900MHz overclocked. Gigabyte claims it has a virtual 12 CPU power phase with 2 phases each for memory and the Northbridge. Besides supporting CrossFireX via two PCIe x 16 Gen 2 interface, this board also has Realtek's ALC889A HD Audio providing it with a SNR of 106dB and Dolby Home Theater.

Intel D975XBX (i975X) Motherboard

The uber HOT FedEx lady just dropped off the latest Intel D975XBX motherboard and I snapped a few pictures of it. This motherboard is using the Intel 975X Chipset and comes with three, yes three, PCI Express slots on the board.
Papers with the board explain that it has 2 PCI Express controllers in the MCH to enable either 1 x 16 or 2 x 8 operation for the 16 PCI Express lanes. In addition to multiple thread support, the Intel 975X Express Chipset enables key performance-optimized capabilities such as support for multiple 2x8 graphics cards, Intel Memory Pipeline Technology (Intel MPT), 8GB memory addressability to enable 64-bit computing, and ECC memory support.
